How the packing works
MaxRects places each frame into the smallest sheet it can, like a careful Tetris. It is the right choice for mixed-size sprites — UI icons, props, characters of different heights. Enable trimming and transparent borders are removed before packing; the exported data remembers the original offsets, so nothing shifts in-game. Optional rotation squeezes sheets further, at the cost of some engines preferring unrotated atlases.
Grid gives every frame the same cell, aligned bottom-centre so characters share a ground line. Animation frames and RPG Maker-style character sheets want a grid — engines slice them by cell size alone, no data file needed.
Working from an existing sheet instead? The Cutter reverses the process. Have an animated GIF? Drop it here — it is unpacked into frames automatically — or use the dedicated GIF tool to keep frame timings.
